Breakout — harga tembus rintangan selepas konsolidasi, kemudian retest

Breakout trading adalah strategy yang sangat popular di kalangan trader. Konsepnya simple:

Bila harga "break" (pecah) level penting, trade ikut arah break.

Tapi execution yang betul memerlukan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam.

Apa Itu Breakout?

Definisi

Breakout berlaku apabila harga melepasi (break through) level support atau resistance yang signifikan dengan momentum.

Jenis Breakout

TypeDescription
Resistance BreakoutPrice breaks ABOVE resistance
Support BreakdownPrice breaks BELOW support
Range BreakoutPrice exits consolidation range
Pattern BreakoutPrice exits chart pattern (triangle, flag, etc.)

Visual Example

Resistance Breakout:

Anatomy of A Good Breakout

Key Components

  1. Clear Level - S/R must be obvious
  2. Multiple Tests - Level tested 2-3 times before break
  3. Volume - Breakout candle has higher volume
  4. Momentum - Strong candle close beyond level
  5. Follow-Through - Price continues in breakout direction

Strong vs Weak Breakout

AspectStrong BreakoutWeak Breakout
CandleLarge, strong closeSmall, wick-y
VolumeHighLow/normal
CloseFar beyond levelJust past level
Follow-throughImmediateHesitant
Previous tests2-3 clean testsMany messy tests

Breakout Trading Strategies

Strategy 1: Breakout Entry

Entry on breakout candle close.

Long (Resistance Break):

  1. Identify resistance level
  2. Wait for candle to CLOSE above resistance
  3. Entry on close of breakout candle
  4. SL below resistance (now support)
  5. TP at next resistance or measured move

Short (Support Break):

  1. Identify support level
  2. Wait for candle to CLOSE below support
  3. Entry on close of breakdown candle
  4. SL above support (now resistance)
  5. TP at next support or measured move

Pros: Catch the move early Cons: Higher false breakout risk

Strategy 2: Breakout + Retest

Wait for price to retest broken level.

Long (Resistance Break):

  1. Resistance breaks
  2. Wait for pullback to broken resistance
  3. Broken resistance now acts as support (RBS)
  4. Entry when price bounces off RBS
  5. SL below the RBS level
  6. TP at next resistance

Short (Support Break):

  1. Support breaks
  2. Wait for rally to broken support
  3. Broken support now acts as resistance (SBR)
  4. Entry when price rejects at SBR
  5. SL above the SBR level
  6. TP at next support

Pros: Better risk/reward, confirmation of break Cons: Miss trades that don't retest

Strategy 3: Range Breakout

Trade when price exits consolidation.

Setup:

  1. Identify range (clear high and low)
  2. Wait for consolidation (at least 10 candles)
  3. Trade breakout of range high or low
  4. SL inside the range
  5. TP = Range height projected from breakout

Example:

Range: 4,200 - 4,250 (50 ticks height)
Breakout above 4,250
Entry: 4,252
SL: 4,240 (inside range)
TP: 4,300 (50 ticks above breakout = range height)

False Breakouts

Apa Itu False Breakout?

False breakout (fakeout) berlaku bila harga break level tapi kemudian reverse balik ke dalam range.

False Breakout:

     |
4250 |====/\===== Resistance
     | / \
     | / \ ← Price broke above then reversed
     | / \
     |/ \___
4200 |

Cara Elak False Breakout

MethodDescription
Wait for closeOnly enter on candle CLOSE, not wick
Wait for retestEntry on retest, not breakout
Volume filterRequire above-average volume
Multiple TFHigher TF must confirm
PatienceWait for 2nd candle confirmation

False Breakout Trading

Counter-strategy: Trade the false breakout itself!

Setup:

  1. Price breaks level
  2. Fails to follow through
  3. Price reverses back inside range
  4. Entry in OPPOSITE direction
  5. SL beyond the fakeout high/low
  6. TP at opposite side of range

Breakout Entry Checklist

Before entering any breakout:

  • Level is clear and significant (multiple tests)?
  • Breakout candle is strong (not weak/wick-y)?
  • Volume confirms (higher than average)?
  • Higher timeframe trend supports direction?
  • SL placement is logical?
  • RRR is at least 1:2?

All checked = Enter. Any unchecked = Wait or skip.

Breakout Pada FCPO

Key Levels To Watch

Level TypeHow To Identify
Daily High/LowPrevious day's high and low
Weekly High/LowCurrent/previous week extremes
Round numbers4,000 / 4,100 / 4,200 etc.
Swing pointsRecent swing highs/lows
Consolidation rangeObvious range on chart

FCPO Breakout Example

Setup:

  • Resistance at 4,280 (tested 3 times)
  • Price consolidating below
  • Watch for breakout

Breakout occurs:

  • Candle closes at 4,288 (8 ticks above resistance)
  • Volume spike confirms
  • Entry: 4,288
  • SL: 4,270 (below resistance)
  • TP: 4,330 (next resistance)

Measured Move Target

Concept

Project the height of consolidation from breakout point.

Formula

For bullish breakout:
TP = Breakout Level + (Range High - Range Low)

For bearish breakdown:
TP = Breakdown Level - (Range High - Range Low)

Example

Range: 4,200 - 4,280
Height: 80 ticks

Bullish breakout at 4,280:
TP = 4,280 + 80 = 4,360

Bearish breakdown at 4,200:
TP = 4,200 - 80 = 4,120

Common Breakout Mistakes

Mistake 1: Chasing Breakout

Problem: Entry too late after breakout already extended

Solution: Enter on breakout candle close OR wait for retest

Mistake 2: Ignoring Volume

Problem: Trading low-volume breakouts

Solution: Require above-average volume for confirmation

Mistake 3: Premature Entry

Problem: Entry on wick penetration, not close

Solution: ALWAYS wait for candle close above/below level

Mistake 4: Fighting Higher TF Trend

Problem: Breakout long in daily downtrend

Solution: Trade breakouts in direction of higher TF trend

Mistake 5: SL Inside Noise Zone

Problem: SL too tight, caught by normal pullback

Solution: SL beyond the broken level with buffer

Breakout vs Pullback Trading

Which To Use?

Breakout entry if:

  • Very strong momentum
  • News-driven moves
  • Clear range with high volume break

Pullback entry if:

  • Want lower risk
  • Prefer confirmation
  • Higher TF supports direction

Breakout Timeframes

Higher Timeframe = Stronger Breakout

TimeframeBreakout Strength
DailyVery strong
4HStrong
1HModerate
15minWeaker
5minWeakest

Multi-TF Approach

  1. Identify level on higher TF (Daily/4H)
  2. Wait for breakout on trading TF (1H/15min)
  3. Enter on lower TF (15min/5min)

Example:

  • Daily: Resistance at 4,300
  • 1H: Price approaching 4,300
  • 15min: Enter on breakout candle close above 4,300

Soalan Lazim (FAQ)

Q: "Berapa ticks dianggap 'break'?"

A: Depends on timeframe:

  • Daily: 15-20 ticks minimum
  • 1H: 8-10 ticks
  • 15min: 5-8 ticks

Close must be beyond level, not just wick.

Q: "Breakout tanpa retest, boleh trade?"

A: Boleh, tapi higher risk. Consider smaller position size.

Q: "Macam mana nak tahu fakeout atau real?"

A: You can't know 100%. That's why:

  • Use SL
  • Wait for confirmation (close, volume, retest)
  • Accept some fakeouts will happen

Q: "Best timeframe untuk breakout FCPO?"

A: 1H and 15min work well untuk intraday. Use 4H/Daily for swing.

SL placementBeyond broken level
TargetMeasured move or next S/R

Action Steps

  1. Identify 2-3 key levels before market open
  2. Set alerts at those levels
  3. Wait for candle close (not wick) beyond level
  4. Check volume for confirmation
  5. Execute with proper SL and TP

"Breakouts are not about catching the exact moment. They're about recognizing when price has decisively chosen a direction and riding that decision."
