MACD Trading Strategies

Strategy 1: Signal Line Crossover

Most common MACD strategy.

Buy Signal:

1. MACD line crosses ABOVE signal line
2. Ideally below zero line (catching early)
3. Entry on the crossover candle close
4. SL below recent swing low

Sell Signal:

1. MACD line crosses BELOW signal line
2. Ideally above zero line
3. Entry on the crossover candle close
4. SL above recent swing high

Example:

MACD crosses above signal at 10:30
Price at 4,200
Entry: 4,200
SL: 4,185 (below recent low)
TP: 4,250 (1:3 RRR)

Strategy 2: Zero Line Crossover

Stronger signal than signal line crossover.

Buy Signal:

1. MACD line crosses ABOVE zero line
2. Indicates shift from bearish to bullish momentum
3. Entry on crossover
4. SL below the low of crossover period

Sell Signal:

1. MACD line crosses BELOW zero line
2. Indicates shift from bullish to bearish momentum
3. Entry on crossover
4. SL above the high of crossover period

Strategy 3: MACD Divergence

Powerful reversal signal.

Bullish Divergence:

• Price makes lower low
• MACD makes higher low
• Signal: Bearish momentum weakening, potential reversal up

Bearish Divergence:

• Price makes higher high
• MACD makes lower high
• Signal: Bullish momentum weakening, potential reversal down

Trading Divergence:

1. Identify divergence
2. Wait for MACD crossover for confirmation
3. Entry on confirmation
4. SL beyond divergence extreme
5. Target opposite S/R level

Strategy 4: Histogram Reversal

Early signal before crossover.

Buy Setup:

1. Histogram negative (below zero)
